Problems with generic Gabapentin

Several parents have reported problems with Teva and Sandoz

You might think that taking a generic version of a drug was safe. In most cases it is. However we have received a number of emails from parents advising us that a switch from the branded Neurontin Gabapentin to either Teva Gabapentin or Sandoz Gabapentin has resulted in a loss of seizure control with some children.

We asked a number of chemists in the UK if this was possible and they have confirmed that in a small number of cases the switch from the branded Neurontin Gabapentin to either Teva or Sandoz Gabapentin has indeed resulted in a loss of seizure control.

We advise all parents to ensure that their doctors prescribe Neurontin for their children to avoid any possible loss of seizure control.

Why the change? Well quite simply because the NHS is trying to save money.

If you have noticed any minor increase in the number of seizures your child has been having since the switch from branded Neurontin Gabapentin to either Teva or Sandoz Gabapentin please contact your chemist or GP immediately.
